A police inspector was brought before the Sessions Court in Butterworth today to face two corruption charges amounting to RM11,500, allegedly linked to the settlement of a gambling case two years ago.

The accused, Mohd Firdaus Kamal, 39, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read separately before Judge Zulhazmi Abdullah.

According to the first charge, Mohd Firdaus, who was attached to the Criminal Investigation Division at the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, is accused of receiving a RM5,000 bribe from a 55-year-old man.

The prosecution was conducted by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor Noor Azura Zulkiflee, while the accused was represented by lawyer Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq.
