12-Year-Old Son of MP Rafizi Ramli Attacked with Syringe in Putrajaya

Date:

The recent attack on the 12-year-old son of Pandan MP and former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has sparked nationwide outrage, prompting immediate responses from authorities and political figures.

The assault occurred earlier today at a shopping mall in Putrajaya, where the boy was reportedly jabbed with a syringe by two unidentified men before they fled the scene. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that police are actively tracking the suspects, and CCTV footage from the mall has been reviewed as part of the investigation.

The child is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at a local hospital. Rafizi stated that this was the first time his family had been targeted and suggested the attack may have been intended as a warning to intimidate him over political matters. He emphasized, however, that he will not be deterred and will continue his work as usual.

Political leaders have also voiced condemnation. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim denounced the attack, promising a transparent investigation, while Penang PKR Youth called the incident a “cowardly attempt” to weaken the MP’s resolve, urging law enforcement to act swiftly.

The Home Ministry assured the public that the investigation would be impartial, regardless of anyone’s status or background. In Parliament, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul stated he would seek clarification from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and, if necessary, convene a special session to address safety concerns for all MPs.

Authorities have appealed for the public to refrain from speculation as the investigation continues and due process takes its course.
