Agong To Decide New MACC Chief, Says Appointment Should Not Be Politicised

Date:

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, will determine the next Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), as the current tenure of the incumbent nears its end.

In a statement shared via the Royal Press Office (RPO) Facebook page, His Majesty said there is no need for any party to politicise the appointment process.

Sultan Ibrahim stressed that he will select the most suitable candidate to lead the commission moving forward, emphasising the importance of strong leadership in the anti-corruption body.

He added that the role is crucial in ensuring the MACC continues to effectively combat corruption, abuse of power and misappropriation of public funds.

The position has drawn public attention as the current Chief Commissioner, Azam Baki, is expected to complete his term on May 12.

Azam, 63, has served multiple extensions since his original term was due to end in 2023.
