A 43-year-old man has been arrested by police after allegedly cleaning a vehicle without permission and then demanding payment from the owners in an incident at Gerbang Malam, Ipoh.
The incident, which took place at about 11.40pm on Tuesday, involved a couple who were inside a Perodua Bezza when the suspect reportedly approached their car and wiped the vehicle’s headlamp before demanding RM60 for the so-called service.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, said the victims refused to pay as they had not requested any such service.
The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly became aggressive and smashed the front passenger window of the Perodua Bezza using a stone after being turned down.
Following public circulation of the incident on social media, police acted on information received and arrested the suspect at about 1am on Wednesday.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, a local man, has eight prior criminal records. He is now being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
Police also stated that the suspect is expected to be charged at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
A video of the incident has gone viral online, showing the suspect approaching the victims’ vehicle before allegedly acting aggressively after being refused payment.
