“Wound Gang” Spotted in Malls, Exposes Injuries to Solicit ‘Medical Fees’

Date:

(Kuala Lumpur, 25th) — A group dubbed the “wound gang” has reportedly been appearing in well-known shopping malls in the capital, exposing their injuries to gain sympathy and claiming they have no money for medical treatment, in order to solicit “medical fees” from the public.

It is understood that most of them are foreign men who initially ask for RM40 for medical expenses, but will quickly offer a “discount” and even accept payments via the Touch ’n Go (TnG) e-wallet.

A netizen recently shared on social media that a member of the “wound gang” was spotted at a well-known shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, exposing a gruesome wound while aggressively asking passersby for money.

The poster said he was buying coffee with his wife and child when he was approached by a foreign man who appeared pitiful and claimed he was injured and had no money to see a doctor, immediately asking for RM40 as medical fees.

“To gain sympathy, the man actually rolled up his sleeve in public to show a bloody and serious-looking wound. Honestly, seeing something like that suddenly in public was extremely nauseating and uncomfortable.”

Not wanting to get into a confrontation while with his child, the poster tried to avoid the man, but the latter refused to leave. He insisted that if there was no cash, payment via TnG e-wallet was acceptable, and even reduced the amount to RM20. The poster eventually transferred RM20 just to get rid of him.

The poster later approached a patrolling officer, who said he was not the first victim and advised that if encountering such individuals again, people should simply refuse and not give any money.

Another netizen commented that a similar incident happened in Klang, where the individual suddenly revealed a wound beside a dining table, nearly causing people to vomit. In the end, money was also given just to escape the situation.

Netizens advised that if you encounter the “wound gang,” do not give them any money. The best approach is to refuse outright, or politely say: “I can take you to the nearest security counter or call an ambulance for you.” If the person is a scammer, they will likely run away immediately.
