A 24-year-old man plunged to his death from the 27th floor of an apartment in the city in the early hours of yesterday, after reportedly hearing a sudden knock on the door while with his girlfriend.
The incident occurred around 2.30 am at a service apartment in Malacca. The man had checked into the unit with his 21-year-old girlfriend at around midnight.
A resident on the 8th floor said they were startled by a loud noise and, upon stepping out onto the balcony, saw someone floating in the swimming pool on the 7th floor. The resident immediately alerted the police.
When authorities arrived, they confirmed the victim was a man. His left hand appeared to be fractured, believed to have happened during the fall. Fire and rescue personnel retrieved the body, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The body was later sent to the central hospital morgue for a post-mortem.
Malacca Central District Police Chief Christopher confirmed the case, which is currently classified as sudden death. He urged the public not to speculate on the incident.
