Former Johor Bersatu associate chief Datuk Tan Lek Khang was injured after he allegedly accidentally shot himself during a firearms training session at a training centre in Kota Tinggi, Johor, earlier today.
According to initial reports, the politician sustained injuries to his chest area following the incident. He is currently receiving treatment at the Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) in Johor Bahru.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited at this stage, with authorities yet to issue a full statement on how the firearm was discharged during the training exercise.
Lek Khang had previously made headlines on February 13 when he announced his resignation from Bersatu and stepped down from his position with immediate effect, citing a loss of confidence in the leadership of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Police and relevant agencies are expected to investigate the circumstances of the incident as further updates are awaited on his condition.
