Marine Police Nab Man In RM33,000 Fuel Smuggling Raid In Pahang

Date:

The Marine Police Force Region Three has arrested a local man suspected of being involved in illegal diesel and petrol misappropriation following a raid on a premises in Kampung Baru along Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman earlier this week. The operation highlights ongoing enforcement efforts to curb the abuse of controlled fuel supplies in the country.

Its commander, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairuddin Jamal, said the 32-year-old suspect, believed to be a storekeeper, was detained while standing in front of the premises during the operation. Authorities acted on intelligence before moving in on the location.

During the raid at approximately 3.30pm, officers discovered and seized three storage tanks believed to contain about 790 litres of petrol and 2,000 litres of fuel. The seizure reflects the scale of the suspected operation, which is believed to have been running for some time.

Police also confiscated several pumps, containers and a mobile phone, with the total value of the seized items estimated to exceed RM33,000. Such operations are often linked to illicit distribution networks that exploit subsidised fuel for profit, posing risks to both the economy and public supply.

Mohd Khairuddin confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and possible connections to a wider syndicate. The case has been handed over to the Pahang office of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for further action.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying enforcement operations to combat the smuggling and misappropriation of controlled goods, ensuring national economic stability and safeguarding public interests.
