An individual known as ‘Imran Koyube’ has been sentenced to one year in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court in Sungai Besar after pleading guilty to a travel package fraud charge. The case reflects ongoing concerns over scams exploiting unsuspecting victims through fake travel offers.
Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad, said authorities first received a report on December 26 last year regarding fraudulent activities carried out using the name of a travel agency. Following the complaint, an investigation was initiated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
He said the suspect was successfully arrested on April 24 after police conducted further investigations into the case. The man was subsequently remanded for four days to assist with inquiries before being charged at the Sungai Besar Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning.
According to Md Yusof, the accused pleaded guilty immediately after the charge was read in court. The court then handed down a sentence of one year’s imprisonment along with one stroke of the cane.
Earlier reports indicated that a man had been detained and remanded until April 28 as part of the investigation into the fraud case. The incident also drew public attention after allegations surfaced that the suspect had misused his ex-wife’s identity for debt-related matters without her knowledge.
The case gained wider traction after details went viral on social media, with claims that the suspect had previously been involved in similar fraudulent activities before resurfacing using different identities and agency names.
