The General Operations Force (GOF) has detained a lorry driver and seized 100 sheep during a roadblock at Pengkalan Kubor, in a late-night operation believed to involve livestock-related offences and suspected document fraud.
The seizure, carried out at about 11pm by Battalion 9 under Op Taring Wawasan, was initiated after officers stopped a lorry that appeared suspicious during inspection. The operation is part of ongoing enforcement efforts against cross-border and livestock-related violations.
Brigadier General of the Southeast Brigade, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain, said checks on the vehicle uncovered 100 sheep being transported. Officers also seized a livestock movement permit allegedly issued by the Veterinary Department, which is suspected to be forged.
He added that inconsistencies were also found involving the seal number on the lorry, which did not match the invoice presented by the driver. The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle and livestock, is estimated at around RM270,000.
Initial investigations revealed that the 44-year-old driver claimed he was offered RM250 to transport the sheep to Johor. He also insisted that this was his first time transporting sheep in his 20 years of driving experience.
The suspect further stated that the livestock was collected from a farm in Pok Teh, Pengkalan Kubor, and claimed he was unaware of any irregularities involving the seal numbers. The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1954 and has been referred to the Kelantan Veterinary Services Department for further action.
