UMNO Negeri Sembilan Urges Emergency DUN Sitting Amid Political Turmoil

Date:

UMNO Negeri Sembilan has urged for an emergency sitting of the State Legislative Assembly (Dewan Undangan Negeri, DUN) to be convened immediately, citing the need to address the ongoing political instability in the state.

State UMNO chairman Jalaluddin Alias said delaying the DUN sitting for up to six months, as previously indicated, could lead to administrative uncertainty and weaken governance in Negeri Sembilan. He warned that such a delay may trigger further complications in state administration.

“If the assembly is held back for six months, the government will be operating in an unstable condition and various issues are expected to arise, creating uncertainty in the state administration,” he said, adding that an urgent sitting is necessary to resolve the current political deadlock.

Jalaluddin, who is also the Pertang state assemblyman, stressed that failure to reconvene the assembly soon could disrupt policy implementation and overall government efficiency. He added that the Speaker of the DUN, Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, should act promptly to summon a special sitting to deliberate on the matter.

He further stated that an emergency session is the only viable option to restore stability and ensure the state government continues to function effectively. “In my view, a special sitting must be called as soon as possible. There is no second option,” he said.

The political tension follows recent developments where 14 UMNO-Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen withdrew their support for the state government led by Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, citing unresolved issues involving key traditional and constitutional figures in the state.

In a separate development, five Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen have reportedly extended a written offer to UMNO and BN to collaborate in restoring political stability. Meanwhile, the opening of the 15th Negeri Sembilan DUN session, officiated by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has been postponed until a later date, further reflecting the ongoing political uncertainty in the state.
