Sarawak Plans RM30 Million Oil And Gas Support Hub In Miri

Date:

The Sarawak government is planning to develop a RM30 million support services hub for the oil and gas sector in Miri, aimed at strengthening operations linked to production activities in northern Sarawak waters.

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg said the proposed facility is expected to complement the upcoming Miri deep-sea port development and enhance the state’s wider maritime and energy infrastructure network.

He said the initiative is not only about funding but also about attracting investment into the region, particularly to support services required by the oil and gas industry in northern Sarawak.

Abang Johari made the remarks during a site visit to the Kuala Baram delta access channel dredging project in Miri, which is part of ongoing efforts to improve maritime infrastructure in the area.

The RM208.9 million dredging project involves bund construction, dredging works and related marine infrastructure. It is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Premier said the project is intended to enhance Sarawak’s maritime capacity by allowing larger vessels to access the port and improving overall efficiency in logistics and port operations.

He added that once completed, the channel will provide safer and more efficient navigation routes, further supporting Miri’s role as a key industrial and logistics hub for northern Sarawak.
