A 17-year-old boy has been arrested by police after allegedly causing the death of his friend in an incident along Jalan KL Yos Sudarso in Medan Belawan, Indonesia, at approximately 7.30pm on 27 April 2026.
According to Belawan Port Police Chief, AKP Agus Purnomo, the victim, identified as MFR, was believed to have been targeted following an earlier altercation between the two while playing futsal several days before the incident. The case highlights how unresolved tensions among youths can escalate into serious consequences if left unchecked.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, known as MS, claimed he was angered after the victim allegedly kicked his leg during the futsal game, which led to lingering resentment. This dissatisfaction is believed to have driven the suspect to act aggressively.
“Fuelled by revenge, the suspect chased after the victim and kicked the motorcycle he was riding, causing him to lose control and fall,” Agus said in a statement.
At the time of the incident, the victim was reportedly riding a motorcycle with a friend from the direction of Pajak Baru when the suspect suddenly intercepted them and carried out the हमला. The victim suffered severe head injuries after hitting a hard surface during the fall.
He was rushed to Hospital PHC Belawan for treatment but was later pronounced dead due to the seriousness of his injuries. Authorities emphasised that road-related violence continues to be a growing concern, particularly when it stems from personal disputes.
Police added that CCTV footage and witness statements played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the suspect, who was arrested in Kampung Nelayan Seberang on the same night.
The suspect is currently in custody to assist with further investigations, and the case is being probed under provisions related to serious criminal offences.
