A 55-year-old Chinese national who was fined RM10,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for driving against traffic and causing an accident has died just hours after the sentencing.
The man, identified as Lu Xun, who is also a company director and has been residing in Malaysia for about 30 years, reportedly collapsed and became unconscious around 5pm on the same day.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, confirmed that the victim died while receiving treatment at Hospital Pantai.
“He was pronounced dead at 5.30pm at Hospital Pantai,” he said when contacted.
Earlier in the day, the Magistrate’s Court imposed a RM10,000 fine on Lu Xun after he pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving against traffic flow.
The court also ordered a 12-month jail sentence in default of payment, and suspended his driving licence for two years.
During proceedings, the accused was reported to be visibly emotional and unstable, and had to be comforted by his daughter who was present in court. His lawyer informed the court that he was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Authorities confirmed that investigations and court proceedings had been completed prior to his sudden medical emergency later in the day.
