A terrifying mountainside collapse in southern China has been caught on dashcam, showing the exact moment massive boulders crashed onto a passing truck and triggered widespread destruction along a roadside area.
The incident unfolded in Fengcheng Town near Hechi City, where prolonged heavy rainfall is believed to have weakened the rocky terrain before it suddenly gave way. In the footage, chunks of rock and earth can be seen tumbling down the slope without warning towards vehicles below.
A red truck travelling along the road was directly in the path of the falling debris. One enormous boulder struck the vehicle with force, flipping it into a nearby parking area as a thick cloud of dust engulfed the scene within seconds.
Generally, regions with karst geological formations are known to be highly vulnerable to sudden rockfalls, especially during periods of intense or continuous rainfall, when the ground structure becomes unstable.
As the collapse continued, additional rocks rained down onto nearby areas, damaging parked vehicles near an auto repair shop and causing significant destruction to surrounding infrastructure. Several nearby homes were also impacted, with reports of structural damage to buildings.
Emergency services were deployed swiftly to the scene, where two people were injured and later taken to hospital. Authorities confirmed both victims are in stable condition and are not believed to have life-threatening injuries.
A total of 44 households, involving around 130 residents, were evacuated as a precaution while rescue teams assessed the risk of further collapses. Officials have since launched a geological investigation into the stability of the mountainside as the region continues to face seasonal weather hazards.
