A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed early this morning after crashing into a pickup truck driven by a contractor’s electrical technician who was inspecting a fault along a power outage route in Sarawak.
The fatal accident occurred at around 3.20am along Kampung Karu Road on Borneo Highlands Road. The victim, a member of the local community from Kampung Brang Bidak along Jalan Padawan, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Padawan District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Iwan confirmed the incident, saying the victim sustained critical injuries after failing to avoid the slow-moving vehicle ahead of him.
The pickup truck was reportedly being driven slowly by a Sarawak Energy contractor electrician who was conducting a patrol to inspect damaged electrical cables in an area affected by a power outage.
Police from the Padawan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the report. Investigators examined the crash site to determine the cause of the accident.
The victim’s body was later transported to the Sarawak General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death before being released to the family for funeral arrangements.
