The National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) will be fully implemented in June alongside upgraded security features for the MyKad, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the initiative is part of the Home Ministry’s efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s national identification system and improve the efficiency of public service delivery.
According to him, identity documents such as MyKad and passports will be equipped with enhanced security features designed to meet current requirements and address increasingly complex security threats.
“I believe the National Registration Department and the Immigration Department are fully prepared with their plans. I am confident we will successfully reach this historic milestone in June,” he said during the ministry’s monthly assembly on Monday (May 4).
Saifuddin added that the rollout of improved document systems is timely, as the government moves to issue identification documents with stronger security safeguards.
He also announced that a new system will be introduced in June for citizenship-related applications and submissions that have been approved under the Federal Constitution.
“We have made significant progress in preparing all the prerequisites for the system ahead of its launch,” he said.
Earlier, the ministry had already begun a phased rollout of NIISe at selected air, land and sea entry points from March 31, aimed at improving border control efficiency through a more digital and user-friendly immigration system.
Saifuddin stressed that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns related to identity management while strengthening national security systems.
He also highlighted that border security remains a key priority, adding that Malaysia will not compromise on preventing illegal entry and ensuring that its immigration systems remain robust amid rising global mobility and evolving security threats.
