Negri Sembilan Umno Youth has rejected allegations that it involved the state royal institution in political discourse during its 80th convention on May 2, insisting that its remarks were instead focused on the alleged administrative shortcomings of the Mentri Besar.
In a statement issued on Monday (May 4), the youth wing said its discussions centred on issues involving Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, particularly claims of weak governance and failure to handle customary and constitutional matters in accordance with the state’s administrative sensitivities.
It stressed that any suggestion of treason against the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir was “serious slander” and firmly denied any attempt to undermine the royal institution.
“The state Umno Youth reiterates its unwavering loyalty to Tuanku Muhriz as the state ruler,” it said, adding that the party has consistently defended the monarchy, Adat Perpatih traditions, and the authority of the state ruler alongside other traditional leaders.
The clarification came in response to remarks made by Sekretariat Taat Setia Sokongan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan chairman Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, who had accused Umno of politicising the royal institution during the party convention.
Megat had described the alleged actions as “unforgivable” and called for Umno assemblymen to issue an apology within 48 hours, warning of possible legal action if they failed to do so.
He also urged authorities to investigate the matter under the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code, and provisions relating to insults against royalty and public disorder.
However, Umno Youth dismissed the accusations as unfounded and politically motivated, saying they were intended to distract from what it described as failures in state administration.
“The ‘derhaka’ label directed at Umno is a form of political manipulation. Criticising weaknesses in governance cannot be equated with disloyalty to the royal institution,” it said.
The wing added that the matter should be addressed through proper institutional channels, including the state legislative assembly and unity government consultative platforms, rather than through public accusations.
