Court Sets December Trial For ‘Inspector Sheila’ Over Obstruction Charge

Date:

The Magistrate’s Court here has set two days beginning December 1 for the trial of a police officer known as “Inspector Sheila”, who is accused of obstructing a fellow officer in the course of duty last year.

Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin fixed the dates after Deputy Public Prosecutor Hench Goh informed the court that the representation submitted by the accused, Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, 38, had been rejected by the Attorney General’s Chambers.

“The full trial is scheduled for two days on December 1 and 2,” she said.

Sheila Sharon is charged with intentionally obstructing a police officer, Lance Corporal Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, while he was carrying out crime prevention patrol duties in front of a restaurant along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Dang Wangi, between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on November 4 last year.

The charge is framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.

The accused was represented by lawyer M Manoharan during the proceedings.

According to reports of the incident, Sheila allegedly questioned the officer’s knowledge of the law, mocked police actions, and accused him of threatening a Pakistani motorcyclist at the scene.

She has been suspended from duty since June 23, 2023, following several controversies, including allegations of insulting a fellow officer and threatening an elderly woman.
