2-Year-Old Girl Burned By Electric Shock From Faulty Hair Dryer In Labu

Date:

A two-year-old girl sustained burns on her right index finger after suffering an electric shock from a damaged hair dryer at her home in Labu on Tuesday. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of using worn-out electrical appliances in domestic settings.

Nilai district police chief Johari Yahya said authorities were alerted to the case at about 6.28am following a report from a medical officer. Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred while the child’s mother was testing a faulty hair dryer intended for sale.

According to police findings, the victim came into contact with a deteriorated wire connected to the appliance. When she pulled on the cable, it triggered an electrical leakage, resulting in a shock that caused injury to her right index finger. Such incidents underline the risks associated with handling damaged electrical items, especially in homes with young children.

The child was first taken to a nearby health clinic before being referred to Hospital Tuanku Jaafar for further treatment. Medical examinations, including cardiac checks, confirmed that she was in stable condition with no serious complications. She is currently under observation in the paediatric ward.

Police have classified the case as a domestic accident with no elements of crime, negligence, or abuse detected. As a result, the case has been marked as No Further Action (NFA) under Section 110 of the Criminal Procedure Code due to insufficient evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.

Authorities have since advised the public to ensure that electrical appliances at home are safe to use and to avoid using items that are damaged or worn out, in order to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
