An illegal electronic waste factory in Sik, Kedah, was raided in a joint operation that uncovered more than 300 tonnes of e-waste and machinery worth an estimated RM8.2 million, with six foreign men arrested at the scene.
The operation, led by the Bukit Aman Federal Reserve Unit (PSP) intelligence team with support from the Department of Environment and Sik district police, was carried out on Sunday (17th) at around 11.45am.
According to Federal Reserve Unit Senior Assistant Director Rosli, the factory, which had no legal address, was operating illegally.
“The factory was in full operation during the raid. Officers found hundreds of boxes filled with copper wires and electrical cables. Six foreign men, comprising five Bangladeshis and one Chinese national, were arrested for further investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Sections 34A, 34B, and 18 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, as well as the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
