Two men have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a house in Kampar and fleeing with a safe containing cash and jewellery worth about RM200,000.
Kampar district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said the break-in was reported on Aug 10 after the homeowner returned from work and found the house in disarray.
An inspection of the property revealed that a safe containing cash and various pieces of jewellery was missing. Police subsequently launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the theft.
Following intelligence gathered by the Kampar district police Criminal Investigation Division, a team mounted an operation to track down the suspects.
The operation led police to a house in Brinchang, Pahang, where two men were arrested. They were identified as a 35-year-old Indonesian national and a 40-year-old Malaysian.
Police also seized various pieces of jewellery during the raid, which are believed to be linked to the reported burglary.
Mohamad Nazri said both suspects have been remanded for five days until Aug 17 to facilitate investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.
The case remains under investigation as police work to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and trace the remaining stolen property.
