Influencer and ONE Championship fighter Johan Ghazali has come under fire online after making controversial comments about overweight individuals in a recent social media video.
In a clip posted on Instagram, the Flyweight Muay Thai champion urged viewers to “listen before reacting” as he shared his views on obesity and lifestyle choices.
Johan said he categorises overweight individuals into two groups — those who recognise their condition and are actively trying to improve their health, and those he claims “do not care”.
The controversy intensified after the video was captioned with a provocative statement referencing overweight people and suggesting harsh treatment, which triggered widespread criticism online.
In the video, Johan also defended his right to express personal opinions as a public figure with a large following.
He added that he tends to view individuals who are overweight and appear unconcerned about their health in a negative light, describing them as lacking discipline and self-control.
Johan further said he associates fitness with positive traits such as discipline, reliability and consistency, while acknowledging that his remarks may offend some viewers.
He also drew comparisons with Japan, claiming it is rare to see overweight individuals there due to healthier lifestyles and dietary habits.
The athlete said Malaysians should adopt better health practices, stressing that a healthy body contributes to a healthier mindset.
His comments have since sparked debate online, with many criticising the tone of his remarks while others argued about broader issues related to health and lifestyle choices.
