PDRM Suspends Officers After Drugs And Weapons Found In Ipoh Lock-Up

Date:

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has suspended several officers and personnel following the discovery of various prohibited items, including packets of drugs, mobile phones and sharp weapons inside a lock-up cell at the Central Police Station, Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD).

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) has been instructed to conduct investigations and take appropriate action.

“This includes suspending the officers and personnel involved, and further action will be carried out together with the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and several other departments to ensure this does not recur,” he said during a press conference at Bukit Aman on Friday.

He also reminded all district and state police chiefs to take strict action against such incidents.

Investigations revealed that there were lapses in relation to the discovery of the prohibited items.

“All state police chiefs have the authority to conduct lock-up inspections.

“Instructions have also been issued to district police chiefs to carry out periodic inspections of lock-ups,” he added.

He stressed that overall the situation remains under control, but acknowledged that a lapse had occurred in the recent case where prohibited items were found inside the lock-up.

Previously, surprise inspections by JIPS from the Perak police contingent headquarters uncovered various prohibited items at the Central Police Station, IPD Ipoh.

The inspection reportedly focused on a lock-up housing four male detainees.
