Woman Shocked After Finding Tissue Paper Inside Fish Dumplings Bought At Market

Date:

Authorities in Khon Kaen have launched an investigation after a woman allegedly discovered tissue paper inside fish dumplings purchased from a market near Bueng Kaen Nakhon lake, sparking outrage online.

The incident came to light after a 58-year-old woman bought the dumplings from a local market and later found what appeared to be tissue paper hidden inside the food while eating at home. She subsequently shared her experience on social media, drawing widespread criticism and concern from the public.

Deputy Mayor Nuchaneewan Dradeelert said the municipality had immediately contacted the market management following the viral allegations.

Initial investigations found that the market consisted of two groups of traders — permanent vendors and temporary daily sellers. Officials believe the fish dumpling seller may not have been a regular stallholder but instead operated near the rear entrance of Wat That before moving into the Bueng Kaen Nakhon market area on the evening of May 13.

The municipality’s Public Health and Environment Division has since been tasked with tracking down the vendor involved in the incident. Consumers who purchased or still possess the dumplings have also been urged to submit the suspected “tissue dumplings” for laboratory testing.

Authorities said legal action would be taken against the vendor if foreign objects are confirmed to have been mixed into the food products.

Further inspections are scheduled to take place at the Bueng Kaen Nakhon market in an effort to reassure residents and tourists visiting the popular fresh market area.

Officials stressed that maintaining food safety standards and preserving the tourism image of Khon Kaen province remain top priorities following the controversy.
