Tom Kane, the Voice Behind Yoda And Professor Utonium Passes Away At 64

Date:

Veteran voice actor Tom Kane, best known for bringing iconic characters from the Star Wars universe to life, has died at the age of 64.

His passing was confirmed on Monday through a statement released by his talent agency, Galactic Productions, on Facebook.

“Today we say goodbye to Tom Kane — a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world,” the agency said.

The statement praised Kane for his memorable performances across animated series, documentaries, films and video games, saying his voice had become part of audiences’ memories and favourite stories for generations.

Kane was widely recognised for voicing Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Outside of the Star Wars franchise, Kane was also beloved for voicing Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls. He additionally voiced several other characters in the show, including HIM, Talking Dog and Stanley Whitfield.

His extensive career also included voice work in major gaming franchises such as Call of Duty, Lego Star Wars and multiple Marvel titles.

Born in 1962, Kane reportedly began his voice acting career at just 15 years old and went on to build a decades-long legacy across television, film and video games.

In 2020, Kane suffered a stroke that severely affected his ability to speak and write. He officially retired from voice acting the following year and was later reported to have died from complications related to the stroke.

The agency ended its tribute with an emotional farewell: “Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories, and love he gave to the world will live on forever. Rest in peace, Tom Kane. May the Force be with you, always.”
