The Selangor Fisheries Department (DOF) has foiled two separate attempts involving the illegal possession and collection of cockle seeds during raids carried out in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
In a statement today, DOF Selangor said the first operation was conducted last Saturday following public information received regarding suspicious activities near Sungai Haji Dorani.
“The operation began at 1.15am. Inspections at a settlement area uncovered 13 sacks containing black sand-like material believed to be cockle seeds measuring less than four millimetres,” the department said.
However, no individuals came forward to claim ownership of the seized sacks during the inspection.
The confiscated items were later taken to the Kuala Selangor Vessel Detention Centre for further investigation and action.
On the same day, the department also disrupted illegal cockle seed harvesting activities at a jetty in Pasir Penambang.
“A total of 31 scoop nets worth RM930 were seized after several individuals fled the scene upon realising the presence of enforcement officers,” the statement added.
