Highway Traffic To Hit 2.2 Million Vehicles Daily Amid Back-To-Back Holidays

Date:

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) expects traffic volume across its highway network, including the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), to surge to as many as 2.2 million vehicles daily during the upcoming mid-year school holidays and multiple public holiday period.

In a statement today, PLUS said the spike in traffic is driven by consecutive holidays, including Aidiladha, Wesak Day and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Birthday, which fall within the same period.

The company added that LPT2 alone is expected to record up to 50,000 vehicles daily during peak travel days.

Traffic leaving the Klang Valley is expected to peak on May 22, 23, 26, 28, 29, 30 and 31, while the return flow is forecast between June 4 and 7.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys early to avoid congestion and to use the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule via the PLUS mobile application.

To manage the increased traffic, PLUS said it has implemented several measures, including the activation of Smart Lane operations at 33 high-traffic locations to improve lane capacity.

More than 500 PLUSRonda and LPT2Ronda personnel will also be deployed for 24-hour patrol duties, while toll plaza operations will be optimised with all lanes opened and real-time monitoring conducted via the Traffic Monitoring Centre (TMC).

PLUS is also working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and other agencies to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced road safety.

Road users are reminded to ensure sufficient Touch ’n Go or eWallet balance and to check their vehicles before starting their journey.
