Major Job Scam Syndicate Busted In Setia Alam Raid, 14 Arrested

Date:

Police have dismantled a fake part-time job syndicate targeting Iraqi nationals following a raid in Setia Alam, where 14 men were arrested and electronic devices worth over RM100,000 were seized.

The 3.30pm operation was carried out at a double-storey bungalow by the Shah Alam District Police Commercial Crime Investigation Division, together with officers from the Section 6 police station.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged between 19 and 41, were detained during the Tuesday raid.

He said one of the suspects is a local man, while the remaining 13 are foreign nationals.

“All suspects are believed to be involved in a syndicate offering fake part-time job opportunities targeting Iraqi nationals,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active since February this year, operating as online job scammers.

Police said the group used WhatsApp, Telegram and several websites to lure and deceive victims.

Authorities also seized 20 mobile phones, 12 computer sets, two cars and a WiFi router, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated at RM132,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 120B for criminal conspiracy.

All suspects have been remanded until May 23 to assist investigations.
