Police in Johor have arrested a 28-year-old local man to assist investigations into a molest case involving a school student in Seri Alam that went viral on social media.
Johor Deputy Police Chief Deputy Commissioner Hoo Chuan Huat said police detected a Facebook post from an account under the name “Mohd Fadli Salleh” regarding the alleged incident on Thursday.
Following that, police received a report from the victim’s mother, a 37-year-old local woman, at around 9pm on the same day.
Preliminary investigations found that the molest incident is believed to have taken place in 2025 in the Seri Alam area, Johor.
Acting on information, a team from the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect at about 10.30pm to assist further investigations.
Initial urine screening showed the suspect tested negative for drugs, and checks also found that he has no prior criminal record.
Police said an application for remand will be made at the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court on May 22 to facilitate investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Authorities also advised the public not to speculate or circulate comments that could interfere with the investigation, while encouraging those with information to come forward.
