The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning following forecasts of heavy rain across several areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan until 7pm today.
In a statement, MetMalaysia said in Peninsular Malaysia, affected areas include Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, and Dungun in Terengganu, as well as Bentong, Kuantan, and Pekan in Pahang.
Heavy rain is also expected in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor Bahru, Johor.
In Sarawak, severe weather is forecast in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Sarikei), Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu), Kapit, Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Beluru and Marudi), and Limbang.
In Sabah, the warning covers the Interior division (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan), the West Coast, Tawau (Tawau, Kunak, and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan), and Kudat.
Labuan is also expected to experience widespread adverse weather conditions.
MetMalaysia said the thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, either occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.
It added that such warnings are short-term alerts, valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
