A teenage girl was killed while eight others were injured in two separate road accidents that occurred in Ayer Tawar, Manjung and Bidor, Tapah early Sunday morning.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the first incident was reported at 1.15am involving two vehicles near Petronas Changkat Cermin in Ayer Tawar.

The crash involved a Honda CR-V and a Perodua Kancil, leaving two occupants of the Kancil trapped inside the vehicle.

“An 18-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel, while another 18-year-old male victim suffered serious injuries.

“The driver of the Honda CR-V escaped unharmed,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Firefighters from the Ayer Tawar and Seri Iskandar Fire and Rescue Stations arrived at the scene at 1.24am and used special rescue equipment to free the trapped victims.

The injured male victim was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment, while the body of the deceased was handed over to police for further action.

The operation, involving 17 firefighters and two fire engines, ended completely at 3.18am.

In a separate incident at around 5.14am, seven individuals were injured in a collision involving two vehicles at Kilometre 342.6 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound near Bidor.
