The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds affecting seven states and the Federal Territory of Labuan until 12 noon today.
In a statement, METMalaysia said the states involved are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan.
In Kedah, the affected areas include Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda.
In Perak, the alert covers Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak, while in Selangor, Sabak Bernam is affected.
For Sarawak, the warning includes Betong, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro) and Miri. In Sabah, Kudat is also under the alert.
According to the statement, the warning is issued when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour are detected or expected to occur for more than an hour.
“Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no more than six hours per issuance,” it said.
