Part of the roof at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Perlis was blown away by strong winds during a thunderstorm on Monday evening (August 25), prompting temporary home-based learning for 207 affected students.
Perlis Education Director Rose Aza Che Arifin confirmed the storm struck around 5:20 pm, affecting multiple year groups. “The State Education Department has informed the students’ guardians, and immediate steps are being taken to carry out repairs as soon as possible,” she said.
Rose Aza added that funding has been requested from the Ministry of Education to support urgent repair work. The school has been instructed to closely monitor students’ learning during the home-based period to ensure no one falls behind.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek posted on Facebook that she has requested a full report on the damage from the Perlis Education Department. “Disaster funds will be channeled so that repair work can be implemented immediately,” she confirmed, while also expressing relief that no students, teachers, or staff were injured.
Kangar District Police Chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop noted that the storm caused additional damage beyond the school. He confirmed that a car was damaged after being struck by part of the school roof blown away by the strong winds.
