A 36-year-old woman was found dead inside a rented room at a shophouse along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman after her younger sister returned home and discovered her body cold and unresponsive on Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Kamarliya, 36, was reportedly found lying in the same position she had been in when her sister left for work earlier that morning. She is believed to have died some time before she was discovered.
According to the deceased’s sister, Kamarliya had been undergoing psychiatric follow-up at Sibu Hospital and had a history of schizophrenia. She also reportedly experienced a poor appetite recently, often feeling full after eating only a small amount during meals.
The sisters had spent time eating, drinking and chatting as usual a few days earlier, and there had reportedly been no obvious signs that anything was wrong with Kamarliya.
On the morning of the incident, her sister saw her still asleep before leaving for work. She decided not to wake her and went out as usual.
At around 11am, the sister tried calling Kamarliya but received no response. Concerned, she immediately returned to the rented premises to check on her.
She was shocked to find her sister still in the same position and her body had already become cold. She then contacted the authorities for assistance.
Police and medical personnel arrived at the scene and carried out checks, subsequently confirming that the woman had died.
Police have since taken over the investigation, while the deceased’s body was transported to the hospital mortuary for further examination.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
