Johor Declares Special Holiday After JDT’s Historic Fourth Straight Malaysia Cup Title

Date:

Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi has announced a special state holiday tomorrow after Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) secured a historic Malaysia Cup victory last night.

The Southern Tigers defeated Kuching City FC 2-0 in the final held at the TM National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, marking their fourth consecutive Malaysia Cup title — the first club in the competition’s history to achieve such a milestone, Bernama reported.

The decision to declare the holiday was made with the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail, also known as TMJ, in recognition of the unwavering support from Johor citizens and JDT fans.

“The victory is a gift to Bangsa Johor and supporters who have stood firmly behind the team through every season, in good times and bad,” Onn Hafiz said in a Facebook post last night, while also congratulating the players, coaching staff and management.

JDT head coach Xisco Munoz described the achievement of winning four consecutive Malaysia Cup titles as a remarkable moment in the club’s history.

He said the success reflects the team’s determination to continuously improve and set higher standards each season.

“Again, it comes back to history. JDT is the first club in Malaysia to win four consecutive cups, and this is important for us as we always aim to build something stronger,” he said at the post-match press conference.

Munoz acknowledged that Kuching City posed a strong challenge, especially in the first half, but said JDT took control after the break.

Goals from Marcos Guilherme and substitute Arif Aiman Hanapi in the second half sealed JDT’s sixth Malaysia Cup title overall, following previous wins in 2017 and 2019.
