The High Court today approved an application by the mother of Syamsul Haris bin Shamsudin, a reserve cadet at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), to exhume her son’s grave for a second post-mortem examination.
The deceased’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, filed the application on August 14 through Naranxing & Co. Advocates at the Shah Alam High Court, naming Inspector-General of Police Dato’ Seri Mohd Khalil Ismail and Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Dusuki bin Mokhtar as respondents.
She claimed that her son’s death involved possible criminal elements, particularly due to the presence of visible injuries on his body and conflicting official accounts regarding the cause of death.
Syamsul Haris bin Shamsudin, 22, passed away on July 28 while undergoing combat training at the Malaysian Army Combat Training Centre (PULADA). Reports indicated that he suddenly became incoherent and lost control during the session before being sent to Kuala Terengganu Hospital by military medical staff. He tragically died while receiving treatment in the emergency department.
Upon seeing her son’s body, Ummu Haiman noticed numerous injuries and immediately reported the matter, urging the police to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
