Trapped for 4 Days: Greyhound Stranded on 17th Floor Rooftop Sparks Massive Rescue Effort

Date:

For nearly four tense days, a lone Greyhound has been stranded atop the 17th floor of Villa Kejora Apartment, trapped on the rooftop, too frightened to move and too traumatized to trust anyone. His only companions: concrete, wind, and silence.

The first call for help came in on Saturday, and 4PAWS (Penang Animal Welfare Society) sprang into action, spending nearly three hours attempting a delicate rooftop rescue. But the dog’s fear was overwhelming—every approach sent him bolting further into danger.

What began as a single rescue effort has now grown into a remarkable display of community compassion. Residents, volunteers, and multiple agencies have rallied together, determined to bring the terrified Greyhound to safety.

Yesterday, the rooftop mission saw an unprecedented coalition: the Fire and Rescue Department, 4PAWS, International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA), Penang Island City Council officers, the Civil Defence Force, animal lovers, and volunteers from Selangor and the Peranakan Chingay Pulau Pinang. Even a kind-hearted elderly volunteer joined the effort.

“Everyone is working tirelessly, but the dog is still too scared—refusing food, even fried chicken, and avoiding the trap cage,” 4PAWS shared on Facebook. “As of 9pm, the rescue team is still on site, united in their determination to bring this poor soul to safety. Let us all pray that the dog can finally be saved tonight.”

4PAWS also announced that if no owner comes forward after the rescue, they will take the Greyhound in. As of this morning, the tense rescue mission is still ongoing, with hope and hearts united for the dog’s safe return.
