Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki has described allegations made against him by businessman Albert Tei as baseless and has urged police to investigate the latter for allegedly filing a false report.
Azam said he had never dealt directly with Tei and questioned claims that he was threatened through a lawyer.
“I have no idea what this fellow is talking about. I have never spoken to him directly,” he said in an interview with the New Straits Times.
He also denied instructing any lawyer representing him to communicate with Tei on his behalf.
Tei had previously alleged that Azam issued threats through a lawyer over ongoing disputes and investigations.
Azam, however, accused Tei of spreading misinformation and “playing games”, insisting that the claims were completely untrue.
He said he welcomed any investigation into the matter and was prepared to fully cooperate with police.
At the same time, Azam urged authorities to also look into Tei’s actions, which he described as false accusations.
Tei had earlier alleged that Azam threatened, obstructed and victimised him while he was attempting to expose alleged corruption involving several high-profile Sabah politicians.
He also claimed that MACC officers conducted an aggressive raid at his home on Nov 28 last year, during which personnel allegedly pointed weapons, restrained him with cable ties, and caused distress to his family.
Tei further alleged that officers forced entry into his home, ordered his wife to delete video recordings, and seized CCTV footage during the operation.
