22 Foreign Workers Using Fake MyKad Jailed For Two Months

Date:

Twenty-two Indonesian nationals, comprising 21 women and a man, have been sentenced to two months in prison after pleading guilty to using fake identity cards.

The accused, aged between 28 and 51, were convicted under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007).

The National Registration Department (JPN) said the prosecution proceedings were conducted at two separate Magistrates’ Courts and presided over by Magistrates Nor Azilah Mat and A. Khartiyayini.

All 22 individuals were arrested at a factory in Klang during Ops Getah. They admitted to the offences after the charges were read out in court, with the court subsequently ordering them to serve two months’ imprisonment from the date of their arrest on Aug 6.

JPN said the prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officers Md. Shahedan Md. Taib, Zulkarnain Ahmad and Mohd. Ramzi Adnan, while the charges were filed on the instructions of Deputy Public Prosecutor Sufi Aiman Azmi.

The department stressed that enforcement action would continue to be intensified to curb the misuse of identity documents, particularly cases involving the fraudulent use of Malaysian identification cards.

The case came to light after authorities uncovered an alleged tactic involving the 22 Indonesian workers, who were suspected of posing as legitimate MyKad holders to secure employment at a rubber factory in Kapar.
