A grieving elderly man in Malaysia has appealed for public assistance after saying he is unable to afford a proper funeral for his late wife, who passed away peacefully at the age of 78.
The emotional appeal was shared on social media by Uncle Kentang, who said one of his volunteers was assisting the family with death confirmation procedures when the husband broke down over his financial situation.
The elderly man reportedly said he could not even afford a haircut, let alone the cost of cremation and funeral arrangements needed to ensure his wife was laid to rest with dignity.
General welfare advocates note that rising living costs continue to place significant pressure on low-income households, particularly elderly individuals without stable financial support.
In his emotional plea, he repeatedly apologised to his late wife, expressing sorrow that he was unable to fulfil her final wish for a dignified farewell.
He and his son later requested assistance from Uncle Kentang, with hopes that the ashes of the deceased would eventually be scattered at sea after cremation.
The organisation said a total of RM5,800 is still required to cover funeral expenses, including the coffin and related arrangements.
