Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that journalists and media practitioners will continue to serve as the voice of the people, a check on power, and the conscience of the nation.
The Prime Minister, in a message marking National Journalists’ Day, extended his appreciation to members of the media for their continued role in upholding truth and democratic values.
He said the media carries a significant responsibility that goes beyond reporting news, emphasising that it must be grounded in integrity, credibility, courage and accountability.
General observations highlight that the media industry today operates in an environment filled with rapid information flow, where responsible journalism plays a key role in maintaining public trust.
Anwar also stressed that accurate and ethical reporting is essential to ensure that information shared with the public does not harm social harmony.
He noted that in an era of information overload and borderless news dissemination, the importance of fact-based reporting has become even more critical.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing his hope that journalists will continue to uphold their duty as the voice of the people and a vital pillar of democracy.
