The Johor state election (PRN) could be called at any time after Barisan Nasional (BN) has governed the state for more than four years since 2022.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party, as a BN component, has already strengthened its machinery across all 56 state constituencies in preparation for the polls.
He said MCA is fully prepared, noting that the fourth year of administration has already passed and the state is now approaching the fifth year, which traditionally signals that an election may be near.
General political readiness efforts are typically intensified during the final phase of a state government’s term, as parties prepare for possible early dissolutions and shifting voter sentiment.
“We have completed central training last month involving 320 leaders from all areas. The machinery is in place and all necessary groundwork ahead of the election has been carried out,” he said when met at the UMNO Johor Liaison Office.
Earlier, BN Johor chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi chaired a BN Johor meeting attended by component party leaders in the state.
Wee said the dissolution of the state assembly is the sole prerogative of the Menteri Besar under the state constitution, subject to the consent of the Sultan of Johor.
He added that MCA’s focus is on strengthening grassroots support rather than setting specific seat targets for the upcoming election.
According to him, BN has delivered strong governance performance since 2022, contributing to balanced economic growth that voters will ultimately assess at the ballot box.
