A man was killed while five others were injured in a road accident involving a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along Jalan Muadzam Shah–Bukit Ibam near Masjid Kampung Bangkong, Rompin, on Friday.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the accident, reported at 7.07pm, involved a Toyota Hilux carrying five men and a Perodua Alza.
He said two occupants of the Toyota Hilux were trapped in the wreckage, with one of them pronounced dead at the scene.
“The other three occupants of the Hilux and the driver of the MPV sustained only minor injuries,” he said.
General road safety experts continue to stress the importance of cautious driving, particularly on rural routes where visibility and road conditions can contribute to serious accidents.
Mohd Salahuddin said a team from the Kuala Rompin Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 7.36pm and immediately launched an operation to extricate the trapped victims using specialised rescue equipment.
The deceased was later handed over to police for further action, while the injured victims were transported to hospital for treatment.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
