SAR Teams Turn To Surveillance Cameras In Search For Missing Woman

Date:

Search and rescue (SAR) teams are now utilising CCTV recordings to help locate missing hiker Jaslinda Saludin, 49, who disappeared in the Gunung Batu Putih area in Gopeng.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said two officers from the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) have been deployed alongside rescue teams to retrieve surveillance camera chips installed along the search route.

He said the effort aims to review footage that could help trace the movements of the missing hiker in the area.

He added that 16 additional personnel were sent to the location this morning via an AW139 helicopter to strengthen ongoing SAR operations.

The additional team includes members from the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM), Perhilitan, the Forestry Department and Perak Mountain Guides.

Sabarodzi said all personnel were deployed to the summit of Gunung Batu Putih and a new winching point at Kem Kantoi.

He said a total of 50 rescuers are currently involved in the search operation, including 34 already deployed since earlier stages.

Search efforts continue to focus on strategic areas, including hiking trails and zones identified as likely routes taken by the missing woman.

Jaslinda was previously reported to have joined the Trans Spencer Chapman expedition with 13 other participants and two mountain guides, beginning on May 23 via the Pos Gedung–Gunung Bah Gading–Gunung Batu Putih–Kuala Woh route.

She was last seen on Sunday morning at 7.30am after continuing her ascent alone, following earlier health issues faced during the hike.
