MP Demands Answers Over Immigration System Breakdown

Date:

Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng has called on the Home Ministry to disclose the root cause of the recent disruption involving the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs), saying an apology alone is not sufficient.

He said the latest incident, which forced manual processing at entry points, resulted in long queues and significant inconvenience to thousands of travellers nationwide.

Lim stressed that the ministry must immediately explain the cause of the failure, the number of affected entry points and travellers, as well as the current status and completion timeline of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe).

He also urged authorities to outline concrete measures to prevent similar disruptions before NIISe becomes fully operational.

Lim noted that although NIISe was introduced in 2021 to replace MyIMMs, the country is still relying on the ageing system years later, despite repeated promises of full implementation.

He criticised the continued reliance on outdated infrastructure, saying repeated breakdowns have disrupted border operations multiple times in recent months.

Authorities had earlier confirmed that the latest disruption, which lasted nearly four hours, was due to internal technical issues and not a cybersecurity incident.

The Home Ministry said the system was fully restored shortly after recovery efforts began, but concerns remain over the possibility of further interruptions before the new system is completed.
