Police have arrested a local man to assist investigations into a criminal intimidation case involving obscene gestures in an incident along Jalan Tun Dr Awang, which went viral on social media yesterday.
Barat Daya district police chief ACP Anuwal Ab Wahab said the 37-year-old suspect was detained following intelligence gathering after a dashcam recording of the incident was widely shared online, particularly on Facebook.
He said the incident occurred at about 11.27am on Thursday when the suspect, driving a Perodua Myvi, allegedly overtook the victim’s vehicle suddenly while heading towards Relau.
The suspect is believed to have shown obscene gestures before stopping his car in front of the victim’s vehicle and stepping out with a metal-like object, which he allegedly swung towards the victim’s car.
Police said several items, including a Perodua Myvi, a PVC pipe, a car key and clothing believed to have been used during the incident, were seized to assist investigations.
Preliminary urine screening found the suspect positive for methamphetamine, and he also has prior records related to drugs and criminal offences.
He has been remanded for three days until May 31 to facilitate investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Police have also reminded road users to remain calm and avoid aggressive behaviour that could endanger other motorists and public safety.
