Man Found Dead In Car Confirmed To Have Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Date:

A local man found dead inside a car parked in front of an ice cream shop along Jalan Sungai Dua has been confirmed to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Timur Laut district deputy police chief Supt Lee Swee Sake said the cause of death of the 37-year-old was determined following a post-mortem examination conducted at the Forensics Department of Penang Hospital.

He said investigators believe the victim had died approximately five days before his body was discovered.

Authorities confirmed that no elements of foul play were detected, and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR), with a sudden death report opened for further investigation.

The victim, believed to be an engineer, was found fully clothed and seated in the driver’s seat of a car belonging to his wife, which was locked from the inside.

He was discovered at about 11.47am yesterday.

Preliminary findings suggest the man may have fallen asleep inside the vehicle without switching off the engine, which led to the fatal exposure.
