A student from Madrasah Ibnu Yazid was killed after a collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry along Jalan Kangkar Senangar–Pagoh here on Saturday morning.
Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at about 8.30am when the lorry was travelling from Parit Sulong towards Pagoh.
He said preliminary findings showed that a motorcycle travelling from the opposite direction is believed to have lost control before entering the lorry’s lane, resulting in a crash.
The impact left the 19-year-old rider with severe head injuries, a fractured right leg and internal injuries, and he was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Klinik Kesihatan Parit Sulong.
The lorry driver, aged 30, was unhurt in the incident.
The victim has been identified as Muhammad Arif Selamat, a student of Madrasah Ibnu Yazid in Simpang Lima, Parit Sulong, and a resident of Felda Batu 27 Lenga, Muar.
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
