Johor Assembly Officially Dissolved, State Election To Be Held Within 60 Days

Date:

The Johor State Legislative Assembly has officially been dissolved, clearing the way for a fresh state election to be held within the next 60 days.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that the dissolution was carried out with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Ruler of Johor.

The announcement was made during a special press conference held at the Menteri Besar’s official residence in Saujana on Monday.

The move brings an end to weeks of political speculation surrounding the possibility of an early state election, despite the assembly’s term only being scheduled to expire in April next year.

With the dissolution now confirmed, the Election Commission is expected to begin preparations for the state’s next electoral contest, including setting nomination and polling dates.

The upcoming election is anticipated to attract significant national attention, with political parties expected to intensify campaigning efforts in the coming weeks.

In the last Johor state election held in 2022, Barisan Nasional secured a landslide victory by winning 40 of the 56 seats contested.

Pakatan Harapan emerged as the second-largest bloc with 12 seats, while Perikatan Nasional secured three seats. Parti MUDA won one seat.

The latest dissolution sets the stage for another major political battle as parties seek to strengthen their positions and secure voter support across the state.

Political observers are expected to closely monitor the campaign, with the outcome likely to provide an important indication of voter sentiment ahead of future national political developments.
